About This Event

Event Description:

Genspace is partnering up with Apex for Youth to host a Brain Awareness Mini-Carnival at PS169 in Sunset Park Brooklyn. Apex for Youth empowers underserved Asian and immigrant youth from low-income families in NYC to unlock their potential and a world of possibility. Genspace is a community biology lab — a place where people of all backgrounds can learn, create, and grow with the life sciences. Together, we will host a series of brain activities at different tables for 20-25 3rd-5th grade students that explore basic concepts in neuroscience including brain anatomy, neuron structure and function, and sensation and perception. The activities include a craft table for brain hats and pipecleaner neurons, synapse tag, distortion goggles, and the jellybean taste test.
