It’s 1 p.m. You just walked out of the college building and exactly, without thinking, you know which way to go to get home. Namely, your head direction cells form an internal compass that signals the azimuth orientation of the head even without visual landmarks. However, how the brain detects a change of direction when turning its head and accordingly provides information for route planning, how it always knows where the north is, and whether it is really the perfect compass that will always bring you home, find out in our lecture.
