About This Event
Event Description:
Jerome and Stine are researchers at Biotech Research & Innovation Centre (BRIC). They are trying to discover how our brains control the movements of our bodies. Knowing more about this can help them understand what goes wrong in disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, which causes shaking, stiffness, difficulty with walking, balance, and coordination. But, they need help with their experiments and they are counting on you to provide them with results which can help with their project. Are you ready to become a brain researcher for the day?
The activity is structured as an engaging Escape room inspired challenge where participants will don the role of young neuroscientists scientists competing to find the next (fictional) cure for Parkinson’s disease. During the challenge, students are introduced to different techniques and strategies used by neuroscientists to understand the workings of the brain and what goes wrong in neurological disorders. Activities include measuring and comparing one’s own brain activity, investigating microscopy slides of healthy and diseased brain tissue and identifying & illustrating the effect of a potential drug.
In the end, the outcomes of each task will link with each other to spell out the entire journey of a scientific idea from the lab to society.
The challenge is followed by short talks by neuro researchers from BRIC in which they introduce their research field with parallels to the escape room challenges.
