About This Event
Event Description:
Brains of Nature:
Inspired by the theme proposed by the Sociedade Brasileira de Neurociências e Comportamento – Nature and the Brain – we will disseminate knowledge about the diverse brains and behaviors present in nature. Through “knowledge pills” that will be published in the form of posts, stories and quizzes on Instagram, our research team aims to demonstrate the relevance of studying how the brain translates biologically relevant stimuli into natural behavior. Initially, we will present the general principles of Neuroethology, an interdisciplinary science that connects neurobiology and ethology for the comparative and evolutionary study of animal behavior. Then, we will publish fascinating information about how the brains of different animals in nature process distinct sensory modalities. We will highlight specialized behaviors and underlying brain mechanisms in animal groups that became study models in: somesthesia, vision, olfaction, gustation, audition and non-human senses as magnetoperception. Publications will take place daily between March 15 and 22 on the Instargram of the Laboratório de Fisiologia Sensorial e Comportamental (@lafiscicb). Through this action, we aim at expanding our view of nature and developing awareness of the sensory and cognitive diversity present in animals. We hope to increase the connection between man and the nature; to educate about the importance of preserving the diversity of brains and behaviors in our ecosystems; to create new networks of scientific collaboration on Neuroethology in Brazil.
