Event Description:

The Center of Excellence on Neurodegenerative Diseases of the University of Milan (CEND), among its dissemination activities, began over 10 years ago to organize cycles of seminars on the occasion of the World Brain Week. This series of seminars was born with the aim of encouraging students to study science, in particular Neurosciences. The success of this initiative is demonstrated by the ever-increasing number of spectators taking part in our seminars and by the differentiation we have witnessed over the years: now the public is no longer made up solely of high school students, but many teachers are also present and learners of different Italian universities. We believe that this success is linked to the fact that the lessons have a very rigorous scientific slant, are held by experts in the topics presented and have a sufficient duration to allow a complete and comprehensible presentation of the topics, leaving time for a debate, usually very animated and pleasant.
The edition of Cervell.a.mente 2020, entitled “The Brain: between Science and Wisdom”, will have as its main theme a topic of great relevance: artificial intelligence. The speakers’ task will be to discuss the similarities and differences between the brain (human intelligence) and intelligent machines (artificial intelligence), in relation to their learning, memory and thought processing abilities.
The speakers, as usual, will be university colleagues and expert communicators in the issues addressed, able therefore to communicate with the students taking into account also the problems closest to them, such as the design and use of hardware systems, software programs and the practical, ethical and philosophical aspects involved in their use.

Il Centro di Eccellenza sulle Malattie Neurodegenerative dell’Università di Milano (CEND), tra le sue attività di divulgazione, ha iniziato oltre 10 anni fa ad organizzare cicli di seminari in occasione della Settimana mondiale del Cervello. Questa serie di seminari nasce con il fine d’appassionare gli studenti allo studio delle scienze e si propone di affrontare argomenti di attualità nel campo delle Neuroscienze, rivolgendosi principalmente ad un pubblico non specialistico. Il successo di questa iniziativa è dimostrato dal sempre crescente numero di spettatori che partecipa ai nostri seminari e dalla differenziazione a cui abbiamo assistito nel corso degli anni: ora il pubblico non è più costituito unicamente da studenti delle scuole superiori, ma sono presenti anche molti docenti e discenti di diverse Università italiane. Riteniamo che questo successo sia legato al fatto che le lezioni hanno un taglio scientifico molto rigoroso, sono tenute da esperti negli argomenti trattati e hanno una durata sufficiente per consentire un’esposizione completa e comprensibile degli argomenti, lasciando comunque ampio spazio per un dibattito, di solito molto animato e piacevole.
L’edizione di Cervell.a.mente 2020, dal titolo “Il Cervello: tra Scienza e Sapienza”, avrà come tema principale un argomento di spiccata attualità: l’intelligenza artificiale. Il compito degli oratori sarà quello di discutere le similarità e le differenze tra cervello (intelligenza umana) e macchine intelligenti (intelligenza artificiale), in relazione alle loro capacità di apprendimento, memoria ed elaborazione del pensiero.
Gli oratori, come di consueto, saranno colleghi universitari e divulgatori esperti nelle tematiche affrontate, in grado quindi di comunicare con gli studenti tenendo conto anche delle problematiche a loro più vicine, quali la progettazione e l’impiego di sistemi hardware, di programmi software e gli aspetti pratici, etici e filosofici implicati nel loro utilizzo.
