About This Event
Event Description:
During Brain Awareness Week, I will be presenting lessons to my resource class of gifted students, as well as the collaborative classes in grades k-5 about the structure and function of the brain and nervous system. Each day of the week, I will be working with a different grade level. I will show them a model of the brain. We will discuss the lobes of the brain and their job. The students will color and label a model of the brain. We will also complete a brain origami activity, in which the students will complete a foldable that has facts and information about how the senses input information into the brain. The 4th and 5th grade students will create a model of a neuron using beads. We will discuss how the messages travel down the neuron and through the rest of the nervous system. I also have some visual aids such as posters that show the parts of the nervous system. We will do activities to demonstrate the reflexes and reactions of the nervous system.
There will be a bulletin board display in the hallway of the school for all students to learn about the brain and it’s function. I will include safety information about wearing helmets and protection our brain from injury.
