About This Event

Event Description:

The basal ganglia are closely related to the control of voluntary motor movements and motor learning. They function as doors to block unwanted movements. To understand the way basal ganglia work, it is necessary to know their anatomy and physiology. Many motor disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease, are the result of a damaged basal ganglia system. In this presentation, we will explain how commands from other parts of the brain are related to the basal ganglia and how this ultimately reflects on the performance of a movement.
