About This Event

Event Description:

We are born to believe but we soon learn to deceive. The neurological substrate is complex, because a lie does not emerge spontaneously like the truth but, instead, requires at least three components: inhibition of the true answer; shift from the true answer to the false one; retention of the answer in memory. In neurological and functional terms, what are then the mechanisms that enable us to contradict the principle of truth-telling, consciously or after brain damage? And, is there a connection between these mechanisms and the popularity of fake news?

GIANFRANCO DENES
After obtaining his undergraduate and graduate degrees in neurology, he worked in Boston at the Veterans Administration Hospital. He returned to Italy and now teaches Physiological Psychology and Neuropsychology at the University of Padova and Neurolinguistics at Cà Foscari University in Venice. His research focuses on cognitive and linguistic disorders such as aphasia, paralexia and neglect syndrome as well as on brain plasticity and age.

Alternate Description:
