Neuro-Sport: the neuroscience of sport and the sport of neuroscience is an Italian webinar broadcast for at least 1,000 people through the Zoom platform and at the same time launched through Facebook “Neurobioethics- Neuroscienze e Neuroetica” and YouTube.
It is a scientific and informed 4 hours meeting with top physicians, experts in both neuroscience and sport.
The term (neologism) “neuro-sport” refers both to the neurological concerns of athletes, that is the treatment and prevention of neurological sports injuries, as well as the management of primary neurological diseases that affect athletic performance (the sport neuroscience). However, “neuro-sport” also deals with ‘the neuroscience of sport,’ id est, how our brain and nervous system allow us to be ‘sport animals’ (rational animals), and how physical exercises itself shape and re-shape up and down-wards our brain “circuits” and neurotransmitters’ pathways.
The main objective of the webinar is to make known the reality of the neurological, neuropsychiatric, and neuropsychological effects of sport. In addition, this cultural event tackles the need of an optimal individualized patient centered care for athletes of all levels with an emphasis on acute concussion care and potential long-term consequences of mild head trauma. Our multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspective allows for personalized evaluation, targeted treatment, and a safe, individualized return to activity plan for each athlete.
