About This Event
Why are some individuals vulnerable and others resilient to adversity? Is depression a chemical imbalance in the brain? Is stress always a negative thing? For a long time, medicine, psychology and neuroscience have focused on understanding only the vulnerability side and its different faces, such as depression, anxiety, and trauma. However, looking for the biological causes of vulnerability, neuroscience has found that resilience is the one with the unique and distinct neurobiology, which is inseparable from psychological and social factors. Passing through intestinal bacteria, concentration camps, and internet memes, this activity will present the main ideas and debates of the science of resilience and the most well-established biological and psychological pillars of adaptive coping with adversity. The author will also present unprecedented findings from his research group obtained in the last ten years investigating the topic.
