Event Description:
The first Brain Awareness Week (BAW) at Erasmus University College (EUC) will occur between the 13th and the 19th of March 2023. Thanks to the collaboration of different partners, the EUC-BAW will have different activities at various locations like the neuroscience labs from the Erasmus Medical Centre, de Rotterdam Bibliotheek, and the EUC building.
The EUC-BAW is organized into two parts. Part one will take place on Monday the 13th dedicated to elementary school children, Wednesday the 15th dedicated to elementary high school students, and Friday the 17th dedicated to young adults. Each day there will be different activities for each specific group. These activities will take place between 10:00 hours and 14:00 hours at EUC. To close the daily activities, on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings between 18:00 and 20:00 hours, there will be a panel talk guided by an expert followed by a Q&A session with the audience. These talks will include topics like childhood and brain development, sleep in adolescence, and brain and addictions and will be open to the general public. In parallel, during the afternoon from Monday to Saturday, a permanent brain exposition will be open at EUC, which will be accessible to everyone interested in visiting the exposition.
The second part will be dedicated to visiting the stands of various neuroscience and neurophysiology labs from the Erasmus Medical Centre. These stands might be open in different locations and will include some interactive sessions where the public can be part of mock experiments intended to show how and why brain research is essential. Similarly, additional talks given by young scientists will take place at de Rotterdam Bibliotheek on Tuesday 14th and Thursday 16th between 17:00 and 20:00 hours and will be open to all the visitors of the library.
