About This Event
Event Description:
The SciFest will be a science fair with a particular focus on all the wonders of the human brain as we know it. The fair will be held in an open public space at the forecourt of the Museum of Science and Technology in Accra – Ghana.
The fair will be split into three demarcated spaces, with the first being reserved for activities. These activities will be designed to be engaging while introducing visitors to specific neuroscience concepts or properties of the brain. Activities include designing a brain hat, viewing fixed brain samples (whole and tissue slices), deciphering optical illusions, partaking in neurological exams, reaction speed tests, short term/working memory tests and neuroscience experiments based on the spikerbox.
The second section will have a focus on careers. There will be scheduled open-air career talks by invited neuroscience professionals where students can get their burning questions answered. Students will be given a stamp book which they will complete by engaging with multiple professionals in exchange for brain themed rewards and souvenirs.
The third section will comprise poster presentations by undergraduate and postgraduate students. The focus of this section will be on science communication. Visitors will have the opportunity to score their favourite posters with the winning poster on each day being awarded a prize.
