“I hope that you are at least partly convinced that it is not impossible to build a brain. We can do it within 10 years.”
It was 2009, and with these words the South African scientist Henry Markram closed his TedTalk. His idea that it was possible to simulate a human brain in a computer, creating a detailed computer model in a few years, led to the birth of the Human Brain Project, one of the two flagship projects financed in 2014 by the European Commission with a billion euros.
“In Silico” is a documentary by Noah Hutton that tells, together with the life of its visionary protagonist, the birth, the ups and downs of the Human Brain Project, considered exciting at first and then increasingly harshly criticized for its naive and unattainable goal.
