Event Description:

Science and the arts come together in this pair of free events which explore the mysteries of how we dance. The Dance Theatre of Harlem and Columbia University’s Zuckerman Institute partner to bring you inside both the body and mind of a dancer. Enjoy a live dance performance and hands-on experiences, combined with insight from scientific experts about how the brain and body work together to produce the magic of ballet.

In the second event, a live workshop on March 25, 2021, at 6:30 pm eastern, join us for a hands-on exploration of how we can all move and practice dance, led by choreographer Darrell Grand Moultrie, with commentary by Neeli Mishra and Dr. Marijeanne Liederbach from the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries on how to perform while being mindful of injury. The workshop is designed for dancers of all abilities, from beginners to seasoned dancers.

The Brain at the Barre: The Neuroscience of Ballet is brought to you in collaboration with the Dance Theatre of Harlem’s Thursdays @ DTH, and is supported by the Dana Foundation’s Brain Awareness Week Outreach Grants Program.
