Almost from the beginning, armies of researchers were mobilized around the world aimed at developing vaccines using different methods and techniques, with the purpose of attenuating and/or combating the lethal effects of the SARS-CoV2 virus. So far, the World Health Organization WHO has authorized 6 vaccines that are on its list for emergency use and that have shown to be safe and effective.
As research on COVID-19, which is understood as an eminently respiratory disease, has been advancing, it has also been discovered that it usually affects other organs and systems of the human body, such as the heart and brain. Regarding the latter, numerous research articles have emerged documenting that patients hospitalized for COVID-19 with moderate to severe symptoms have experienced a variety of neurological, cognitive, psychological, and psychiatric symptoms that persist long after, even after the initial infection is gone. However, there is still not enough clarity about this. This has generated great concern among mental health professionals and research institutions specialized in the study of the brain.
