THE SOCIAL BRAIN

The Instituto de Investigaciones Cerebrales de la Universidad Veracruzana, in Xalapa Veracruz, México, in its 16th edition of BAW, has prepared in collaboration with the Center for Jazz Studies and the Faculties of Plastic Arts, Music, Dance and Theater, the activities that will take place from 11 to 17 March at Casa del Lago, a magnificent space for the expression of art and science at the Universidad Veracruzana. Through the central theme of this edition "THE SOCIAL BRAIN" we will reflect on this theme that seemed necessary to us. The confinement and isolation to which the Covid-19 pandemic subjected us brought with it a series of social phenomena (and of all kinds) that are worth analyzing from different perspectives, including that of neuroscience, where everyday issues and questions will be addressed. that assail us on a daily basis. For example: why do we care so much about what others think of us or why we are able to predict other people's intentions, even before they utter a single word; how is it that the suffering of others can be the cause of my sadness, why it is irresistible for us to move to the rhythm of the music; what our body postures and facial gestures say about us; why eating next to others is so satisfying; why is it that we learn better in groups. The subject is inexhaustible, but these days we want to look at some answers that science offers us about how the brain processes innumerable signals simultaneously to understand others, our environment and thanks to it live better.

El Instituto de Investigaciones Cerebrales en su 16ª edición de la Semana Mundial del Cerebro ha preparado en colaboración con el Centro de Estudios de Jazz y las facultades de Artes Plásticas, Música, Danza y Teatro, las actividades que se llevarán a cabo del 11 al 17 de marzo en la Casa del Lago, un magnífico espacio para la expresión del arte y la ciencia de la Universidad Veracruzana, en Xalapa Veracruz, México. A través del tema central de la presente edición “EL CEREBRO SOCIAL” se reflexionará sobre este tema que nos pareció necesario. El encierro y aislamiento al que nos sometió la pandemia por Covid-19, trajo consigo una serie de fenómenos sociales (y de todo tipo) que vale la pena analizar desde distintas perspectivas, incluida la de las neurociencias, donde se abordarán temas cotidianos y preguntas que nos asaltan en el día a día. Por ejemplo: por qué nos preocupa tanto lo que piensan los demás de nosotros o por qué somos capaces de predecir la intención de otras personas, incluso antes de que pronuncien una sola palabra; cómo es que el sufrimiento ajeno puede ser causa de mi tristeza, por qué nos es irresistible movernos al ritmo de la música; qué dicen de nosotros nuestras posturas corporales y gestos faciales; por qué comer al lado de otros es tan satisfactorio; a qué se debe que aprendamos mejor en grupo. El tema es inagotable, pero estos días queremos asomarnos a algunas respuestas que la ciencia nos ofrece acerca de cómo el cerebro procesa innumerables de señales de manera simultánea para entender a los otros, a nuestro entorno y gracias a ello vivir mejor.
