Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

A group of 15 students comprising both boys and girls, of the 4th Junior High School of Pyrgos – Ilias, Greece has combined video art and a power point presentation in order to introduce to public and students to teenage brain. The preparation of the actions has involved team building games and the formation of several students groups with specific tasks and assignments to fulfil. Throughout the weeks, a number of experiments and lectures in order to enrich our knowledge background but also to cultivate a common understanding of issues pertaining to neuroscience and the nervous system. In parallel, the groups continued their study and came up with ideas for the presentation during the “BRAIN AWARENESS WEEK 2017”. Having planned our action as presented above, we invited constructive feedback from students so as to promote a spirit of collaboration. Eventually, our school group has decided to participate with a) an exhibition booth b) a digital audio-visual presentation c) a power point presentation In the first part of our presentation, the students had explain that teens respond differently and that is based in their brains! In the second partt of our presentation, the students presented a 4-minute video, a digital audio-visual storytelling that aims to explain visually how teens percieve adholesence throught their eyes and fotos Several “works” were on display at our booth such as:  paintings on canvas inspired by the brain and nervous system (15 paintings altogether)  a paper made mosaic neuron  a knit brain inspired sculpture ** promotional magnets ang key holders and many more We have achieved our goals thus everybody: teens themselves, parents, teachers had undrestood why teens acting differently.

How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?

One of our goals is to bring neuroscience closer to all people and regarding this goal we have been succesful. It is the 3rd year on a row that we have participated and everybody in our school community is expecting what we are going to present every year. On that terms our participation is beneficial
