Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
The event was addressed to school and university srudents as well as adults and its objective was to familiarize them with basic current knowledge of Neuroscience and different aspects of brain research. It was organized by the Academy of Neuroscience (http://acne.gr/) in collaboration with the Hellenic Society for Neuroscience (https://www.hsfn.gr/) and it took place on 17th and 18th of March 1018, in Athens, in the National Library of Greece accommodated in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (https://www.snfcc.org/?lang=en). The following activities were included in the event: 1. Neurodome film (http://www.neurodome.org/) presented in a digital portable full dome (360o) theater the Planetarium on the Go (http://www.planetariumotg.com/). The film reveals images of the brain and was created specifically for showing in a dome. This fascinating show managed to excite the interest of the audience and introduce them in the area of Neuroscience. 2. Exhibition of educational material related to different aspects of Neuroscience for high school students, university students and adults. This provided an interactive learning of basic macroscopic characteristics of the human brain on models and microscopic neuronal morphology on brightfield microscopes. Visitors also had the opportunity to see on monitors, videos with examples of neurons activated in different situations, like place cells in hippocampal formation and neurons of the occipital lobe. 3. Exhibition of educational material related to the Neuroanatomy adapted for middle school stuudents. 4. Interactive neuroscience lectures were held in the Lecture Hall of the National Library of Greece throughout the weekend.
