Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
The main themes of the Brain Awareness Week 2017 events organized by Aima Napoli Onlus were the importance of health prevention and integrated care. We believe that prevention is a practice of the utmost importance in the health care, as it helps patients to catch in time bad conditions and a possible worse disease development. Moreover, a good prevention practice reduces costs for the health system. We talked also about integrated care in health settings. As humans are complex beings, so are the diseases. Integrated settings let the patients be cured by professionals from different disciplines, in order to receive a complete check-up. With these objectives in mind, we organized two events in the city of Naples on the same day. Both events consist of street stands where professionals from A.I.M.A. and other partners would give free visits to anyone would come. To create an integrated care environment, we invited professionals from different disciplines: physicians, psychologists, sociologists, ear specialists, social workers and other health professionals. The first event took place from 10.00 to 13.00 in Piazza San Vitale, Fuorigrotta area, Naples, while the second event took place from 16.00 to 19.00 in via Campi Flegrei, Bagnoli area, Naples. All participants who we meet at our stands feel as they received the right attention and care, and understood the importance of health prevention directly on themselves. During the events, there were also stands that sell walnuts, as the research as shown that a walnut-enriched diet could have positive effects on memory, which is severely impaired in alzheimer’s patients.
