Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
Symposium comprised of two sessions. The first session was about language development and brain; the second one was about dyslexia and brain. The speakers were a neurologist, two speech and language therapists, two special education professors and an audiologist. Speakers talked about the language development from the perspective of neurology: nature vs. nurture, early pragmatic development, delayed language, family counselling for language development, neurologic basis of dyslexia, specialist’s and speech and language therapist’s role in management of dyslexia, and language characteristics of children with reading difficulties. Audience were generally speech and language therapy students and special education teachers from all over Turkey.
