Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

Our goal was to raise the brain awareness with the perspective of speech and language therapists (SLTs) and medical doctors. For this purpose, we arranged some panels and conferences about the speech-language disorders related with the brain such as Parkinson’s Disease, Stroke causing Aphasia and Alzheimer’s. During our conferences, while medical doctors gave detailed information about these diseases, SLTs explained the nature of speech and language disorders resulting from these diseases. Also, they gave sufficient information about the rehabilitation of language disorders. Furthermore, there was a panel about Cri Du Chat Syndrome in which a family whose child has Cri du Chat Syndrome participated as a member of panel. The audience was the families and university students. During this activity, a peadiatric neurologist gave information about the neurological factors of this syndrome. While geneticists informed the audience in the matter of syndrome’s genetic formation, an SLT mentioned swallowing and language disorders in respect to the syndrome. A Social worker also participated in this panel with her presentation. Thanks to the presentations, panels and conferences, we think we achieved our goal about the brain awareness. Our audience gave positive feedback about the organization which made us satisfied and encouraged for the further activities.
