Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
The aim was: in campus brain awareness targeting brain health and addiction for undergraduate students, brain awareness training for high school students and exhibition, brain awareness events in Arba Minch preparatory school and to highlight brain science and brain health, conducting scientific workshop aimed at motivating research activities on brain health. The activities: December 21-22, in campus brain awareness creation in poster, by distributing t-shirts for students and staffs with advocacy through selected students. December 23 – training was delivered for 70 students selected from the 7 high schools . The composition of the students was 5 from grade 11 and 5 from grade 12 from each school. The students were trained about brain structure function and health. They were also given lecture on cognitive neuroscience topics so that they succeed in their studies and also on the science of addiction to refrain from substances that alluringly harmful to the brain. The event included also between school competition from the lecture and best students were rewarded books and shirts. Finally, the students selected two students to organize anti-addiction club in their respective schools. December 24 – The Arba Minch high school was selected to conducted week-long brain awareness week. The banner was prepared and posted on the gate of Arba Minch high school from December 21-25, 2020. The school directors were communicated to address the event for their respective students on the week. On December 24 staff from Arba Minch University to gave a public lecture for the students. December 25 – Mini-workshop was conducted in the University on brain research. Staffs and PG student In all, we achieved our goal.

How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?
It benefited a lot. We got the opportunity to communicate with young students to motivate them in the science. We also taught them about addiction and to refrain from substance use. We got a forum to discuss brain science.
