Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

Our program of the Brain Awareness Week Berlin (BAW Berlin) 2021 was a shorter program and completely online due to the corona pandemic. It was designed to address various target groups from pupils grade 10 to academia. We started with a scientific talk for junior and senior researchers. On Tuesday evening we organized a book presentation. The book is a popular science introduction into brain function and disfunction and was presented by the authors Prof. Dr. Ulrich Dirnagl and Dr. Jochen Müller. One of the authors was happy to answer the audience’s questions after the presentation. On Thursday evening we organized a live stream of the movie “Little Joe” by Jessica Hausner (German version) and offered a Q&A session after the movie with our expert Prof. Henrik Walter. It is a story about a female scientist who created a flower that makes people happy – and sometimes unhappyOn Friday we offered a virtual lab tour for a school class with Q&A session. And finally, on Tuesday evening we closed the BAW with a talk about birds and how they learn to sing in comparison with human speech learning – for the general public with Q&A session at the end.During the whole week we had three short lab movies on our website that could be watched. We are very grateful to all staff, postdocs and faculty members, who made this program possible. We would like to thank FENS for their generous support. The grant made it possible to organize a very diverse program and advertise it broadly with spots and flyers. This first virtual BAW worked quite well for us. We had a lot of interested people joining the events.
