Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

For the first time in Puglia we have met curious people of different age to spread new knowledges about the brain and its functioning. Through Brain Awerness Week many psichologists, neuropsychologists and physicians promoted conferences allowing participants to know neuroscientific news from the latest scientific findings on brain and diseases affecting not only adults but also children. Salvatore Maugeri Foundation’s event was probably the one with the highest positive RSVP rate; it involved many associations of patients and cargivers in a discussion about the multidisciplinary approach to cognitive disorders. Highly demanded was the cognitive assessment of memory and attention for adults (>50 y.o.) and cognitive evaluation for dyslexia in many elementary school. Much appreciated and shared by parents, children and educators was the meeting were we used the Inside Out cartoon characters to introduce children to emotions. We also gave a lecture on good habits that allow us to keep our brain in good shape (excercise, healthy food, mental fitness, relaxation) during early ageing. We presented the last results on autism and ADHD research sharing with parents, educators and teachers, supplied educative strategies and tecniques to improve children development. Another successful event was the exhibition of paintings by an artist with Alzheimer’s desease.
