Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
In one event, for the HS students, the speaker, Prof. Antonio Virgili, illustrated the connections between adolescence body changes and brain changes. To study brain changes, may help in explaining some teen behaviours and some psychological disturbance in adolescence. Contemporary neuroscience research is showing how brain changes may affect body systems, behaviours and attitudes. Teenagers’ brain development is often overlooked, and adolescents need to know more about it and how to improve brain and health well-being. Many students asked questions and asked for further information. In the other event, the two speakers, discussed about stress, anxiety and neurotransmitters (Prof. Antonio Virgili) and about brain neuro – inflammation, immunity, and some neuro – related syndromes (Dr. Rosario Savino). To act directly of indirectly, even through integrative psychosomatic techniques, on neurotransmitters can help in therapies to reduce stress and anxiety, now in more widespread among young people too. Brain neuro-inflammation and immune response today help to understand various behavioral disorders previously considered only mental disorders. In this way the diagnostic procedures and therapies require to be set according to different criteria. Some autism researches were clear examples of this need.
