Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

In Marseille, Brain Week was held from March 9 to 26, 2021. Due to health constraints related to the COVID19 pandemic, all scheduled conferences (13 in total) were switched to a "videoconference" format, live via Zoom. The public had the opportunity to interact and ask questions via the chat relayed by a moderator. The conferences are also available in replay on the YouTube channel of our association Cerveau Point Comm, except for 2 for which we did not obtain the authorization to record from the speaker. The program of the conferences is detailed below: "Stroke and physical exercise" "Brain and food" Quizz: "What do you have in your skull?" "Glial cells: the stars of the brain come out of the shadows" "How does the body talk to the brain to control our health and allow us to age well?" "The intestinal microbiota, a player in brain regulation" "Myelin: a white matter to improve the performance of the gray matter" "From neuron to thought: discovering the wonders of our brain!" "Healing through touch, from traditional medicines to tactile neurobiology" "Psychological disorders in the light of neuroscience" "Decision making in extreme conditions" "understanding the brain blues" "The hormonal brain" "Brain and Food" The second part of our action, namely the interventions in schools, also worked very well despite the organizational difficulties inherent to the pandemic. A total of 24 elementary school (81 classes), 7 middle schools (16 classes) and 24 high schools (39 classes) in Marseille and many surrounding towns were able to benefit from an presentation by a researcher or a student (M2, thesis) in Neuroscience. A large part is reserved for exchanges with the students.

It is difficult to assess the relative contribution of each of these methods in the overall success...I think, press release, mails and social media were very useful.

BAW brings together researchers and students from different laboratories to organize the event. It makes our community more solid.

The online version of the conferences was appreciated by many people who would not have been able to participate otherwise, either because they live far away from the usual conference center or because they finish working too late. We decided to propose a mix of classical / zoom conferences next year.
