LaboNC-UESPI’s II National Cerberus Week achieved its goals in publicizing the importance of understanding and studying the brain, both to the general public and to university students in public squares and in the shopping mall. Feedback & Keys to Success
How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?
Brain Awareness Week provided the general community with contact with professionals who work seriously with the brain and its relationship with mental health in a welcoming and demystifying way.
One of our concerns occurred: people present at the event would spontaneously say that they had a mental health problem, so our conduct was to refer people who supposedly needed psychological or psychiatric assistance to free mental health programs offered by our university.
Please share any suggestions or lessons learned that may help others plan future events:
There is much progress in neuroscience research, but there is little translation accessible to the lay public. Suggestion: develop a psychoeducation booklet on the relationship between brain and mental health and its social and political implications.
