Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

The aim of our week of the brain is to promote, among the university community and the public in general, current issues in the neurosciences to try to generate an approach. In this session we celebrated ten years of carrying out this activity and for that we offered 5 great conferences and we carried out our traditional neuroscience diffusion Poster contest. The lectures dealt with relevant and current topics in the neurosciences such as comciencia, aging, cancer and the philosophical and historical approach of the brain. The attendance to the conferences was a success, the venue of the event, the auditorium “Guevara Rojas” of the faculty of medicine of the UNAM always filled. Approximately 700 to 900 people attended the conferences in addition to a similar amount saw them online. Our poster contest was held, with the theme mind and brain, 36 teams of students participated, a total of 110 participating student. The posters competed in three categories, awarded to the first three places in each category. The winning posters of each category, competed in a subsequent event organized by the Mexican chapter of the society for neuroscience. The winners were awarded medals and diplomas, in addition to other gifts. The participants of the contest represented 10 medical schools and the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS). As every year, the participation of students of medical schools was reflected in the poster contest, as well as that of the general public during the conferences. The organizing committee is satisfied with the results obtained and hopes that the following year is still better. We thank all the instances that supported the event including DANA

Feedback & Keys to Success

How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?

This event has allowed the approach of both university students and the public in general, to relevant topics in the study of neurosciences.

Please share any suggestions or lessons learned that may help others plan future events:

We would like DANA to have more presence in the events, for example the realization of some message either written or in video would be a good detail of the foundation towards the organizing committees.
