Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
15 March- The Neurosciences meets the students. At the Liceo Scientifico E Fermi (Sulmona, Italy), some researchers met the students, speaking about their experiences. Prof. G. Fano’-Illic kept a seminar titled: A short trip within the brain that does not exist yet, a brief discussion on the interplay between the biotechnologies and the brain. It has been revealed a nice morning with the enthusiastic feedback by the students. 16 March- Conference addressed to University and PhD students. At G.d’Annunzio University Prof. G. Fano’-Illic has animated the discussion about the relationship between the biotechnologies and neuroscience among research and clinical fields, urging curiosity and interest. 5 April- A whole day dedicated to “visit” the neuroscience. During the morning at the elementary school of Scuola Primaria 6° Circolo of Chieti, children have become familiar with the functions of the brain through games and group competitions. The main subject was: Our five senses: a window on the world. Researchers played with the students by training their senses. In the afternoon, the students visited the labs of the research center of CeSI-MeT of the University of Chieti-Pescara, where the students participated to some experiments concerning learning and memory tests on small animals. The little students were fully excited! 18 March- Regional Brain Bee competion. The first 5 best students (selected locally at each school on 19 February) from the high schools of Pescara, Sulmona (AQ), L’Aquila and Giulianova (TE), participated to the regional selection of the National Brain Bee. The first three students (Letizia Alessandrini, Alessandro Di Nicola and Alessia Rinomato) attended to the National competion in Catania, Italy.

Feedback & Keys to Success
How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?
To be an international network spreading the knowledge on neuroscience field.
Please share any suggestions or lessons learned that may help others plan future events:
Each year we make new experience and try to involve much people. Anyway the followings are the milestone of our work. Considering that BAW is on March, to organize a school program, Directors and School staff should be contacted on September when they plan their academic year programs, at least in Italy. Then, if proposals are accepted, the activities should be defined on December keeping in touch with the Teachers in order to prepare the scholars at the best. Moreover it must consider the time necessary to publicize the events.
