Faculdade Barretos

During Brain Awareness week in March 2017 the Psychology course from the University of Barretos in Brazil participated in Brain Awareness Week for the first time, led by Prof. Fabiana Faria, Mariana Ducatti, Mariana Roselino and Everton Horiquini-Barbosa. Events were hosted by the Brazilian Society for Neuroscience and Behavior (SBNeC) and in total there were four events held during our Brain Week. The first event was a workshop with a series of presentations in local high school to approximately 35 students. Team of 13 psychology students performed a activity to talk about how the brain process sensory information. The second event was held in a child school where approximately 60 children took part in hands on activities to learn more about the brain making a paper brain hat while a group of 18 psychology students taught them about the brain functions. The third event was a public lecture by Speech Therapist Sabrina Fontanesi on “Alterations in oral communication from childhood to third age” at the University of Barretos in Barretos and over 90 people attended the lecture. The fourth event were an workshop with 18 psychology students and 20 elderly residents of a local long-term institution. Our Brain week events were publicized on campus and on the electronic media. Feedback for all events was extremely positive.
