Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
The Peddy Brain at FMUC started with a brief presentation of the Faculty and its research centers and laboratories, followed by guided visits to some laboratories. The researchers explained some of the research studies conducted at FMUC and the students had the opportunity to participate in some experimental procedures. The main scientific topics covered by this activity were “The effect of drugs of abuse on the Brain”, “The brain of an animal model” and “The human brain”. According to the participants, the activity was very satisfactory.

The Peddy Brain at FMUC was also advertised by the Portuguese Society for Neuroscience (http://www.spn.org.pt/brain/brain02.asp) and by the Portuguese Agency for the Scientific Culture “Ciência Viva” website (http://www.cienciaviva.pt/divulgacao/semanacerebro2015/list.asp?tipo=1). Participants have registered into this activity through “Ciência Viva” website.

BAW initiatives are extremely important to promote Neurosciences in Portugal. These initiatives, especially when targeted to high school students, can stimulate them to pursue a research career to their future.
