Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
Main topic of our BAW this year was “Brain and Sport”. Beside our main topic, there were two more topics: “Brain – hungry for glucose and oxygen”, “Brain and Artificial Intelligence”. Posters with upcoming events were distributed through the city, in public transportation, schools, University library and Faculty buildings. Also BAW was announced on the local TV stations (Slavonska TV, Osjecka TV), in local newspapers (Glas Slavonije, Jutarnji list, Vecernji list), local radio stations, through the various social networks (official Facebook page of Section for Neuroscience Osijek: SENZOS – ideje koje razbuđuju osjetila (https://www.facebook.com/senzos.ideje), Osijek 031 (http://www.osijek031.com/osijek.php?najava_id=71583) and via official web site of Faculty of Medicine of Osijek (http://www.mefos.unios.hr/index.php/hr/fakultet/galerije-fotografija/77-galerije/1505-galerija-tjedan-mozga-2018). Through the week we held workshops for university students and also for elementary, middle and high school students. Every day afternoon lectures open for public were held and we organized a Science cafe about artificial intelligence as well as Quiz: “Cyborgs of the 21st century”. BAW is held for over a decade in the city of Osijek and we also expand it to another two cities – Slavonski Brod and Vukovar, and this year, just like the past years, people were looking forward to it.

Feedback & Keys to Success
How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?
Most beneficial to our Faculty was impact on students – they gain experience in organization, workshop and lecture presentation. Our city, every year in the last almost 20 years, expects us to hold the BAW and it is tradition now. It is an opportunity to hear many excellent quality scientific lectures, workshops and learn new things that are usually not studied so detailed in high schools or at university studies.
Please share any suggestions or lessons learned that may help others plan future events:
If you want to share information to high school and faculty student population, the best way is to use students. They are directly „in“ social media and they know what young people want to hear and what is the easiest way to learn them something new, funny and scientific.
