Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

Title: Difference between the female and male brains. Theoretical / Practical Activity: Differences in the learning of cognitive abilities. Workshop location: Instituto de Puericultura e Pediatria Martagão Gesteira, Hospital Clementino fraga Filho, UFRJ, Brazil Public: children in the Ambulatory of the hospital and caregivers Show differences in the connections between the hemispheres of the male and female brain with a 3D image. In addition, identify the differences between boys and girls in the resolutions of activities. Finally, make parents aware of the importance of stimulating children’s brains during their development with play activities. A study done at the University of Pennsylvania concluded that the male brain has more connections within each hemisphere (that is, there are more connections within the left hemisphere and inside the right hemisphere), since the female brain has more connections between the hemispheres (that is, they are more interconnected). This leads to a better integration of different stimuli between the two sides of the female brain, which is why, generally, women do several simultaneous tasks. Resources that were used: 3D model of the brain made by hand.Poster with the game of space perception.Memory Game Poster. Brochure with the maze game. Folder with theoretical explanation of workshop. The events were important, active, inclusive and unexpected for participants who love what was going on.

Feedback & Keys to Success

How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?

BAW is very respected by our target audience because we always do The brain week, and we announce that there is a partnership between us and BAW during the week. In all our events, we consider the importance of BAW and our public respects this.

Please share any suggestions or lessons learned that may help others plan future events:

The 3D Museum project is becoming an academic enterprise outside the university, and we would like to continue our partnership with BAW.
