Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

During our program we had 5 lectures: 1) Physical activity and cognition. Lecturer: Dr. Sérgio G. da Silva 2) New perspectives in Parkinson disease studies. Lecturer: Dra. Cecília Café-Mendes 3) Sleep and memory. Lecturer: Dra. Karin de M. Vieira 4) The teenager brain. Dr. Guilherme Brockington 5) Biological rhythms. Dra. Fernanda Amaral We also had 4 short-courses: 1) Morphology of Neuron. Dra. Suzete Cerutti 2) How does a neuron generate electricity? Dr. Fernando Abdulkader 3) Brain physiology. Dr. Rodrigo Peliciari-Garcia 4) A sick brain. Dra. Mônica Telles As workshop we developed activities called “Practicing neurophysiology in High School” which provided a nice environment to practice physiology of central nervous system. Besides, we had a concert presented by 2 students of our university where they sang Popular Brazilian’ song that have brain-discussed/cited lyrics. All attendees visited the labs of our university. And we went to a public place (bus terminal station) to Brain awareness with a neuron prototype.

Feedback & Keys to Success

How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?

The community of Diadema city around the campus are really poor and the event provided an opportunity to access high level information about the brain and neuroscience. The attendees teachers reported that the activities highlighted the importance of teaching about brain to their students, but they need more events like BAW as resources of continuing formation.
