Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
In 2017 the Gedächtnistrainingsakademie organized the 11th time a brainweek event in Austria. This year we did an open day in our departments in Salzburg and Vienna. According to this Mag. Monika Puck, head of the Gedächtnistrainingsakademie and the European Association of Memory Training, gave a keynote “How games can enhance your memory”. People were invited to try out games that stimulate different brain functions like perception, memory and concentration. In the afternoon we did some workshops on different topics like • Neurofeedback to enhance memory capacity of older adults Stephanie Puck, MSc. gave a short introduction in the topic neurofeedback and the research study “Actibrains, Neurofeedback meets cognitive Training”. Then the audience was allowed to try out the neurofeedback training, where the alpha capacity of their brains were display on a computer monitor. • Computer based memory training with Memofit A introduction on the research on computer based memory training was given by DI Katharina Puck. Different tasks were solved together and mnemonic techniques to increase the performance was showed. • How to use games in the nursing care of people with neurocognitive disorders Mag. Monika Puck showed different games and how they can be modified in the different stages of dementia to increase communication and activity. Next year we will do speeches and workshops on “Memory and nutrition” in cooperation with the eat and meet festival Salzburg.
