Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, BAW 2021 in the Hospital for Paraplégics (HNP, Toledo) consisted on 13 short (3 min) scientific videos videos to be shared through online platforms and social netwoks. Videos were recorded by PhD students and other scientific and technical personnel from the Research Unit of the HNP. The videos described Neuroscience-related projects and specific technical resources of the Research Unit, and the topics were divided into “What do we investigate?” (9 videos) and “How do we investigate?” (4 videos). These videos were uploaded to the HNP YouTube channel, Infomedula TV ( Video links and a list of related questions were provided to High Schools, to be used in their educational programs. The teachers sent back an evaluation questionnaire and identified the best five videos (from an educational point of view). Most of the feedback was highly positive. The videos were also projected in one of the main halls of the HNP, where patients and their relatives could watch them during the whole week. Copies of a divulgative poster were placed inside public buses in Toledo bus lines. The poster described five interesting brain facts and emphasized the importance of keeping an active brain, including information about the BAW initiative as well. Additionally, four brief (15 min) online talks about brain facts and pathologies were performed for an audience of High School students and their teachers, with great success. Other activities have been programmed to be undertaken in local primary schools, at a level understandable by 8-11 year-old students. These talks will take place after this report has been delivered.
