Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
Several activities were organized to celebrate the BAW 2020 at the Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos (HNP), incluiding the visit to the hospital of students from secondary schools and the visit of researches from HNP to local primary schools to introduce the kids to Neuroscience.However, regarding to the health issues due to the Covid-19 situation the Comisión de Divulgación of HNP decided to cancel all the scheduled activities. Therefore, we adapted the activities and prepared online proposals and informative videos to students for secondary and primary schools. They carried out have been the recording of several videos:1. Presentation and introductory talk. A member of the Comisión de Divulgación of HNP introduces the BAW and the distinctive features of scientific research on Neuroscience to the students.2. How to approach an investigation in neuroscience . The video reproduces the phases of a basic research in spinal cord injury or neurodegenerative disease, and several researchers and laboratories collaborate in the explanations.3. Electrical stimulation can help us walk. The video explains the different clinical investigations carried out at HNP and shows various prototypes to be applied to patients. Researches and doctors participate in the explanations.4. The importance of the brain. The video explains to kids of primary schools the involvement of the brain in sensory perception, and helps them to construct their own paper brain helmet to identify the brain areas corresponding to each sense.All videos were sent to all schools that were going to participate in the activities at the HNP, and have been posted on the HNP YouTube channel (Infomedula tv), thus being able to reach a wider audience.
