Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

People interested in brain issues have met in Center MEMORY in Bratislava, this year addressing topic “Together against Dementia”. Opening lecture given by Dr. Dasa Cizkova, introduced BAW, its mission worldwide, and the supportive role of FENS/Dana Foundation. The participants could watch lectures about the brain, memory training, brain nutrition and stem cells. The presenters were: Mgr.Veronika Režnáková, psychiatrist and psychologists Mgr. Michaela Nováková and Mgr. Simona Krakovská and Prof. Eva Syková presenting lectures: Let’s talk about the brain, Activate your brain and become its sculptor, How we can train our brain. Audience could test their own cognition by simple tests and tasks, which were presented in a playful form that captivated everyone in the room. The event was attended by journalists from TASR and Slovak Television and radio. Finally, the MEMORY Center, the first preventive, diagnostic and specialized facility for people with Alzheimer’s disease, given the opportunity to explore rehabilitation and cognitive training facilities. The second event “Together against brain diseases” was organized together with University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Kosice. Leading experts in neurological brain disorders presented lectures in the field of stroke (Prof. Zuzana Gdovinova, Assoc. Prof. Matej Skorvanek). Second section of presentations was dedicated to veterinary medicine. Where can stem cells help? (Dr. Dasa Cizkova), Acute cases in veterinary neurology (Dr. Aladár Maďari, As none of us are young (Dr. Jana Farbáková). During a breaks students presented their posters. Internet photo exhibition “Fascinating NeuroArt showed amazing artistic pictures from research, the 6 most inspiring were prized.

Which of These Publicity Methods Was The Most Successful?

The media release (2x) was very successful, we have announced our events and the program was also advertised on different web sites: Internet photo exhibition “Fascinating NeuroArt” announced on UVLF Facebook site showed amazing artistic pictures from fundamental research. The internet election selected the 6 most inspiring image.

How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?

The discussion was very intense during lectures and between lectures. Many of the attenders left the lectures asking for the next year theme of the even. Many thanks for FENS and DANA to help us to organize this Culture/ Science event.
