Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
This year INeC and IeA (Instituto de Estudos Avançados of the University of São Paulo-campus Ribeirao Preto) conducted their BAW activities separately, with the exception of a exhibit (Neuroscience and arts) and a symposium on epilepsy, which were organized by IeA and INeC together. The activities held at the INeC were mainly devoted to the public understanding of neuroscience. We organized a number of sessions, which included lectures and exhibits, delivered by basic scientists as well as by clinicians colleagues. We also programmed itinerary sessions led by graduate students, who delivered several talks for general audience at private universities of Ribeirao Preto. Some activities were designed to disseminate knowledge on mental disorders such as anxiety and depression as well as on neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer and Parkinson diseases. All lectures were designed to foster an informal environment and encouraged people in the audience to ask questions following each presentation. The lectures and conferences held at INeC had an average audience of 30 people and the itinerary sessions atracted larger audiences .
