Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
This year Brain Awareness Week was a first time experience for the «School of Patient» organized by students of Kazan State Medical University, but it already was a great success. “School of Patient” included events of various formats on the following topics: “Proper sleep regimen and its importance “,”Healthy brain for healthy baby”,” The problem of cognitive disorders and their prevention. How can we help ourselves and our relatives? “,” The halls of the mind: how does sleep affect the work of our brain? “. The educational program was introduced to professors and students of the KNITU-KAI and KNITU-KHTI universities, patients of the “School of expectant mothers” of the Women’s consultation No. 2, students of Gymnasium No. 52, as well as to the workers of LLC “Construction Academy”. Besides lectures, we prepared a lot of educational materials. Everyone liked our colorful informative brochures and a 3D paper brain model that entertained both young and old. Another great thing was a collaboration with students of Kazan State Institute of Culture: a video about stroke and cognitive impairments was shoot for the wide demonstration. We focused on very up-to-date and applied information that can be useful for everyone: importance of a sleep regimen and effects of lack of sleep on human health; habits and environmental factors that have positive impact on the human brain. Our approach was also targeted on practical information: we provided the information on the prevention and recognition of cognitive impairment, and we also covered providing first aid stroke. Even though it was a big challenge to plan and organize such a large-scale and vast event, we managed to do it successfully and received a lot of warm feedback.

Feedback & Keys to Success
How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?
BAW participation helped KSMU to broaden its international connections and to become a part of great vast community. Students gained great presentation skills and learned more about various neurological topics. We accepted many invitations to hold lectures and that means that society of our city is touched by problems of neurology.
