Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

This was Psi Chi’s first Brain Awareness Week. The students chose to host an open house with the addition of games that highlighted cognitive phenomenon, a demonstration of neuronal communication, and a bake sale. A sizeable crowd attended the event and all exhibit booths were heavily populated during the Brain Awareness Week event. One thing that we will do differently next year would be more frequent and diverse forms of advertisement for the event. Students and faculty alike thought it was a positive and informative event, but were initially confused as to whether this event was open to the public or by invitation only.

Event Planning & Publicity

Publicity Methods Used:

  • Emails
  • Posters/Flyers
  • Other

Other Publicity Methods:

Word of mouth the day of the event

Which of These Publicity Methods Was The Most Successful?

Poster and word of mouth. Open house events are not common at Marygrove College and word of mouth brought those that were otherwise oblivious to the event.

Feedback & Keys to Success

How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?

Students were extremely interested in the neuron communication demonstration. As an outcome, a series of neuroscience courses will be offered for the first time during the 2016-2017 school year. This also generated student interest in Psi Chi.
