Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

An outdoor Health Fair was held in the Hospital open air Courtyard. 16 organizations were represented and each displayed their organizations educational materials related to brain health and also addressed the 6 areas of wellness: Socialization, Spirituality, Mental Stimulation, Physical Activity and Nutrition and their relationship to Brain Health. At the Health & Wellness table, a spin wheel with numbers on it that correspsonded to brain quizzes provided opportunties for Spin and Learn. Prizes were given for correct answers. Prizes included, pedomenters, exercise booklets, sudoko and crossword puzzle books. Also, fresh apples (donated by a local supplier) and water were handout out as healthy snacks. Participants had an opportunity to talk to representatives from organizations that provided many free resources. Free chair massages were provided as well as schedules for exercises class at the hospital. Our objective was to inform our patients and staff of the many resources available to them to improve or maintain Brain Health. Feedback from the presenteers and patients indicated we were successful in this endeavor.

Feedback & Keys to Success

How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?

the booklets, pencils etc are really attention getter and everyone loves them, the BAW site with the suggestions are very helpful for planning purposes, most people like the booklets as they are fun but also educational some immediate outcomes were; people signing up for exercise classes, people connecting with agencies they were not aware of, some people learned some things they were not aware of previously

Please share any suggestions or lessons learned that may help others plan future events:

getting the information out early and distributed to as many of the clinics on site as possible
