Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
The main activity of the project was a film (Neurodome) revealing images of the brain, created by Dr. Fisher Jonathan, Assistant Professor of Physiology in the New York Medical College. The film was created specifically for showing in a dome and we presented it in a transportable planetarium. This fascinating show excited the interest of the audience and introduced them in the area of Neuroscience. Next activity was an interactive learning of basic macroscopic characteristics of the human brain on models and microscopic neuronal morphology on brightfield microscopes. Finally, the pupils had the opportunity to see on monitors, videos with examples of neurons activated in different situations, like place cells in hippocampal formation. The planetarium that we used and the whole equipment was easily transportable, so it was set every day of the Brain Awareness Week in the gymnasium of a school facilitating the access for the pupils. During the weekend it was placed in a Public Hall in order to be accessible for all the citizens of Ioannina town. The audience and mainly the pupils were very enthusiastic with the event. All the activities we organized during the BAW are shown in a 3 minutes YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EfJC151HfEw
