Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
On our campus at New Vistas, we have been engaged in ‘Build a Better Brain University’ activities monthly during the 2018-2019 school year. We covered the themes of self-control, insight, awareness, resilience, and creativity. Through these topics, we have learned about the cerebrum, cerebellum, brain stem, hippocampus and amygdala. During Brain Awareness Week, fifth and sixth learned more about neurons, and the importance of the myelin sheath in neural communication. WE had a visit from our ‘Brain Ambassador’ who used his ‘talker’ to talk with us about PMD and how that affects his ability to communicate and be mobile. Many thanks to the wonderful DANA sponsors for the activity books, stickers, pencils and erasers. Students throughout the school were engaged in meaningful, interesting activities, and enjoyed the week!
