Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

Goal 1: developed brain awareness within our medical students community. We bring 2 different speakers for talking about depression in adults and the other speaker talk about mapping the adolescent brain (NIH program). Goal 2: reach general public, patients and caregivers. In coalition with Alzheimer association we bring an educational person from the association and we talk about the foundations of Alzheimer and later we provide effective ways for dealing with Alzheimer as a caregiver. At the end of the session we provide a free dance lesson where participants engaged and learn about the benefits of dancing for a healthy brain. Goal 3: reach out high school students. We performed a sheep brain dissection in the Tulsa discovery museum, we talk about the relevance of the brain, brain facts and importance of wearing a helmet. Also one professor of our paleontology department made a brain dinosaurs demonstration and we included memory games.

How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?

No unfortunately. It was really difficult get fund for support the event, however this was the first year, hopefully we will be more successful next year.
