Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
The Brain Awareness Week at the University of Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, organized by Sinapses, and sponsored by IBRO and IPARK was a success. It was carried out in a hybrid way with most of the lectures being in person and some online. Children participated in Neuroscience lab tour, learning about brain areas and their functions, how to strengthen learning, about the importance of a rich diet in micronutrients, music, and the arts. They experienced the theory in practice. Those who completed the workshops, at the end, received a certificate as young neuroscientists. In addition, our event featured 29 lectures, given by renowned Brazilians in Fortaleza. We also had online lectures with professionals from São Paulo, Bahia, Piauí, and Spain. The general public participated in BAW, including children, as well as university students, and professionals from various areas of health, technology, and the arts. The opening brought up the relationship between movement and the brain. It was an event full of knowledge, learning, and playfulness. The mission of Grupo Sinapses and Universidade de Fortaleza is to contribute to the population’s quality of life, through the dissemination of Neurosciences and training of health professionals and other qualified centers. Feedback & Keys to Success
How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?
Brain Awareness week spread a series of findings in the field of Neurosciences and areas of Health, Art, and Technology. Students learn the theory in practice. Children became neuroscientists for a day and learned about the importance of our brain, healthy eating, music, exercise, and art. All this in a playful, interdisciplinary, and collaborative way. It also contributed to the training and updating of professionals. It was a week of Knowledge, happiness, and interaction.
Please share any suggestions or lessons learned that may help others plan future events:
It would be wonderful to carry out the Young Neuroscientist workshop in several cities and countries. The BAW is fantastic and should happen in all universities.
