Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:

Title: I brain’s week at UFRR – “Brainstorm: an introduction to neuroscience.” ACTION SUMMARY: The Brain Week is part of Brain Awareness Week (BAW), a global campaign to publicize the benefits of the study of the brain. With its first edition in Boa Vista – Roraima, it was a series of lectures and round tables promoted in the Federal University of Roraima (UFRR), wich primary focus was to discuss the plurality of sources and applications of knowledge in Neuroscience. The event was opened in March 18, with a lecture aimed at discussing introductory aspects about marijuana, as its stories, effects of acute and chronic use, recent research results, functioning of the endocannabinoid system, social aspects etc. During the event, it was given greater focus on the themes Drugs Use and Abuse, sleep, memory and interfaces. The closure of the event was through a conference that sought to list the main perspectives about the concepts of “mind,” “soul” and “brain” in the knowledge arising from Philosophy, Medicine and Psychology. RESULTS: Quantitatively, the audience was much more reached than expected. There were 265 people attended the three day event. IMPACTS:The number of questions asked to the speakers during the event, showed how the content of discussions in Neuroscience are still far from own academic context of the city, making it necessary to promote areas such as this event in order to disseminate and popularize knowledge in Neuroscience.
