Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
The School of Psychology of the UAEM organized the fifth edition of the “Brain Week Awareness 2019”, the purposes were: to inform children and adolescents about the brain and its functions, and to wake up vocations for careers related to the brain and nervous system such as neurosciences, psychology, neuropsychology, neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, among others. The NeuroAnatomy group, coordinated by Dr. Bernarda Téllez Alanís, held several workshops in two days: March 13 at the Atlamiliztli Elementary School in Buena Vista and March 15 at the Fray Bartolomé de las Casas Elementary School of Tétela del Monte. The workshops were: play about “Emotions and their functions”; “Brain rally” with memory trials and physical activation; Motor coordination; Mirror neurons; Give the brain function; Observation of pig brains; Coloring brain booklets; among others. The NeuroAnatomy group members showed great creativity in the proposed activities and the participating children were very active and inquisitive. We thanked the authorities of these primaries who opened their doors to us, linking higher and basic education.

How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?
The Principal of one visited School congratulated us for all activities carried out and he invited us to come back in other time. In the other School, second-grade Professor told us that children don’t have many extracurricular activities and that they had enjoyed a lot the workshops.

It´s very important to design activities outside of the university: Go to basic schools to talk with children and to public places to reach all ages people.
