Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
Following the same structure from our first edition of the BAW hosted in Boa Vista – Roraima, Bazil, we brought three days with lectures and a cinema room. The event opened in March 15 with a lecture about Nootropics or so called “smart drugs”. Subjects such as Neuropsychological evaluation of crack addiction; Aspects from precocious Autism diagnosis; and Behavioural alterations in Dementia were part of other lectures as well. Complementary to that, a cinema room was opened in a different schedules to offer another kind of media to the public with additional content about those subjects. The closure of the event, in March 18, was through a conference about the value of the cognitive complaint to identify Alzheimer Syndrome at pre-clinical stages.RESULTS: In terms of public reach, it wasn’t much different from the past year, which was importante to understand what kind on public is interested in Neuroscience subjects. IMPACTS: Even tho the event was offered to the general public, we could confirm this year the academic community is much more interested , making it possible to think of new local projects and researches in the neuroscience area.

Feedback & Keys to Success
How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?
Our team tries with a lot of effort to bring a new insight in a scientific area that is still not explored enough. In this year we could confirm how the local academic community – in its early stages- is interested on Neurosciences and we hope this could lead us for more future projects and researches in these areas.
Please share any suggestions or lessons learned that may help others plan future events:
Do it in the simple way and do it for everyone. Science needs to be shared with patience and needs to keep in the simple way for the general public who needs what we can offer.
