Details of Major Brain Awareness Week Events/Activities:
Project objectives: Raising awareness of the population on the impact of stress on the brain leading to mental disorders and how to relieve it.
Brain Awareness Week (BAW) was celebrated in Dschang and Buea, from March 14- 19, 2022, under the theme “the impact of the stress on the brain, a specific emphasis on headache”. The brain awareness campaign was carried out under the leadership of Prof Gwladys T. Ngoupaye, in Dschang and assisted by Dr. Nadege Kouemou in Buea. In Dschang during that period, activities were done in the kindergarten, and primary school. In primary school, the students were taught about the impact of stress on the brain, and how stress can affect our mental health. Video projection lectures were done, and flyers were distributed. Kindergarten pupils were taught about the importance of the brain, specifically, the role of neurons on brain function. They were later gathered for hands-on activities, such as painting the brain lobes, plotting the brain’s lobes on a board, and making neurons with modeling clay. At the end of activities in both primary and kindergarten a quiz with a reward for the best was done.
In Buea, we developed the theme by addressing the question of “physical exercise as a palliative of stress leading to mental disorders, a specific emphasis on headache”. We did a March with the lecturers and the population to show how physical exercise can be used to relieve stress.
We were very satisfied as primary school students were able to talk about stress and its consequences and were amazed to see the enthusiasm of the kindergarten pupils when they were using modeling clay during hands-on activities. We also had many activities in Dschang, Bafoussam and Douala, out of this period

Feedback & Keys to Success
How do you feel BAW participation benefited your organization and the local community?
It was TV broadcasted by the second television (Canal 2) of the country, so it has a national and international diffusion and impact so it reaches a great public. Locally the pupils, students, teachers, and lecturers were happy as they were having a better understanding of the stress.
